Bavaria Cruiser 33

Bavaria 33 Cruiser bears the signature of the renowned Farr Yacht Design studio, which, in collaboration with Design Unlimited, has constructed a completely new vessel without deriving from previous models. In designing the yacht, they adhered to their core principle that the essence of Bavaria yachts lies in providing vessels with the best quality-to-price ratio. This also applies to this beautiful 9.99-meter-long yacht.

Deck, Cockpit, and Stern

The Bavaria 33 offers a very functional deck and sailing equipment that allows for sailing and handling by a single person, while others can relax and enjoy the comfort. The cockpit impresses with its large table and foldable stern platform, which significantly increases the yacht’s usable area. The spaciousness around the steering wheel allows for unrestricted movement.

Perhaps the best feature lies in the transom, which folds down to create an extremely spacious swim platform, extending the yacht’s usable length by a meter. Of course, only while stationary.

Interior

The interior is extremely well utilized and spacious. It features two cabins and a central salon with large side windows, which can also be used for sleeping. Additionally, there is a bathroom with a toilet, a galley, and a navigation corner. The yacht’s design is classic and straightforward, which is more of an advantage than a disadvantage.

Smooth and straight hull lines are complemented by a wide and flat deck, which supports a long, low, and elegant cabin that still allows for standing height (184 cm) inside, at least for most people. The cabin features panoramic windows that let in more light, making the interior brighter and more pleasant.

The interior layout is as expected. One sleeping cabin in the bow and another in the stern, a central salon, the galley on the starboard side, and a surprisingly large bathroom on the port side. The salon bench on the port side is also used by the navigator, who has a dedicated table and control panel with a radio installed directly behind the bathroom. The spaces are of standard height and well-equipped with storage compartments, drawers, and cabinets. The galley is small but functional. Although the Bavaria 33 is a two-cabin yacht, it can comfortably accommodate up to six people, as the salon benches can be converted into additional beds.

Sailing Characteristics

Although the yacht’s sailing characteristics have been improved compared to its predecessor with a taller mast and consequently a larger sail area, the sail-to-weight ratio is still relatively low. This places the yacht in the category of slower but more stable and easier-to-handle vessels. In practice, this means lower speeds in light winds but allows for later reefing when the wind strengthens, which is ideal for family cruising.

Sailing Equipment

The mast is divided, with the side stays attached to the hull’s edge. This setup provides exceptional strength but slightly hinders movement on deck towards the bow. The forestay supports a Furlex furling system, mounted at the height of the bow rail, allowing easy sail adjustments without getting caught in the railing.

The vang is conventional, and the mainsail sheet is attached to the cockpit table, which has its advantages (reduced forces on the sheet) and disadvantages (obstructing non-sailing passengers in the cockpit).

Handling

Since the genoa sheets run over the backrest of the cockpit bench, the helmsman can reach them easily, making sail adjustments possible even when using an autopilot. Thus, the yacht can be handled by a single crew member.

Engine

The propulsion is provided by a Volvo Penta D1-20 engine, which, through a sail drive with 13.3 kW of power, efficiently propels the Bavaria 33 through calm waters. Additionally, when docking stern-first, the yacht offers excellent maneuverability.

Conclusion

The Bavaria 33 Cruiser offers great comfort, safety, and solid sailing capabilities. It is primarily a yacht where families and small groups can enjoy their vacation.
