17 illegal anchorages in Croatia

After numerous complications with anchorages, the Croatian government has also decided to regulate the situation.

Last week, they began an operation to remove illegally placed anchorages.

In Croatia, a concession is required to set up an anchorage. For anchorages outside of ports, the concession is issued by individual municipalities, while for anchorages within ports, the concession is issued by individual port authorities. In these anchorages, concessionaires can set up anchoring devices and charge for mooring. In areas where no concession has been issued, setting up anchoring devices and charging for mooring is prohibited.

And of course, in practice, things are not always as they should be. This is why Croatia has taken the first step towards regulating the situation. On the territory of the Port Captaincy, on August 25th, they started removing illegally placed anchorages. A total of 138 buoys were removed from 17 illegally placed anchorages.

The devices were removed from the following bays (bay – number of illegally placed buoys):

  1. Bay Sičenica, Sevid – 8 buoys
  2. Bay Luke, Povlja, island Brač – 8 buoys
  3. Mestna Luka, Split – 7 buoys
  4. Bay Kašuni, Split – 5 buoys
  5. Bay Spinut, Split – 2 buoys
  6. Bay Porat, island Biševo – 6 buoys
  7. Island Budikovac Veli, Vis – 12 buoys
  8. Bay Stari Rukavac, island Vis – 11 buoys
  9. Bay Tepluš, island Vis – 6 buoys
  10. Bay Vela Travna, island Vis – 6 buoys
  11. Bay Borče, island Hvar – 21 buoys
  12. Bay Milna, island Hvar – 7 buoys
  13. Bay Zarače, island Hvar – 7 buoys
  14. Bay Lovišće, island Šćedro – 4 buoys
  15. Bay Lovišće, island Šćedro – 6 buoys
  16. Bay Vela Garška, island Hvar – 12 buoys
  17. Bay Pribinja, island Hvar – 28 buoys
