Last week, the English ship »HMS ECHO« entered the port of Bar in Montenegro, where it will precisely measure and photograph the seafloor of the port this week.
The warship »HMS ECHO« is one of the most modern vessels in the British Navy. It is equipped with the latest devices for exploring and measuring the seafloor and is intended for various hydrographic tasks. It is 90 meters long, 16.8 meters wide, and has a draft of 5.5 meters. It features a diesel-electric propulsion system with three generators providing 4.8 MW of power and two azimuth thrusters, each rated at 1.7 MW (2280 HP). The ship has a permanent crew of 200 members.
The vessel arrived in the port of Bar on Thursday, and this week it will begin precise seafloor mapping. It will produce detailed images of the seabed, electronic nautical charts, and a video recording of the seafloor. In the future, the ship will visit other Montenegrin ports to create modern nautical charts for the rest of the Montenegrin coast.
The last seafloor measurements in the port of Bar were conducted in 2006.
